Best Tech Podcasts

Best Tech Podcasts

I wanted to share the best tech podcasts from the perspective of someone transitioning to the industry. Learning about the tech world can be challenging because it is diverse and always changing. On the flip side, it is also very accessible if you are of the curious type. Podcasts are a great way to dive in and over enough time you’ll find yourself able to understand many of its facets.

I prefer to download my podcasts automatically from iTunes, but there are plenty of other options. I linked to each of the show’s main webpage for reference.

Andreessen Horowitz is one of the preeminent venture capital firms in Silicon Valley. Two of their founders, Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz, are tech celebrities in their own right. Their podcast is wide reaching and approaches tech both by subject as well as exploring the market for opportunities. The best episodes feature Marc Andreessen himself as guest. You’ll be impressed with his forward looking insights and quick thinking. LINK

Y Combinator

Y Combinator is a prestigious SV incubator where advisors work intensely with promising tech entrepreneurs to refine their pitches in order to secure additional funding from investors. Their message board Hacker News is also an incredible place to find relevant tech information and I reference it daily (NOTE: Add HN to your RSS reader to make managing all of the content easier).

Most podcasts are geared towards the “founder set”, but if you have any interest in launching your ideas and scaling it up, this is a great place to start. LINK

TWIT, or “This Week In Tech”, is one of the older tech podcasts on this list. Leo Laporte is host and features a revolving group of panelists who write for a myriad of websites and news sources. You will find some great discussions with very smart people who openly disagree with each other as they try to elaborate upon what is happening in the tech world.

I typically listen to it on Monday morning on my way to work. LINK

Ben Thompson is a highly respected strategist who writes for Stratechery. This is a deep diving, wonkish podcast that will expose you quick to the dirty details of the tech world. They aren’t creating shows at quite the pace they were, but there is a treasure trove of older shows to download. LINK

Kara Swisher is the tech world’s most popular interviewer. She gets a lot of high profile guests to sit down with her and asks tough questions. She often plays the cynic and can bypass the PR friendly answers some of her subjects try to use.

Swisher also writes for the New York Times and her articles there are good too. LINK

Tim Ferriss Show

Tim Ferriss does not host a tech show, but the tech world loves this guy. Author of the “4 Hour Work Week”, and constantly exploring self optimization, you won’t find a lot of real techies who don’t know who he is or what he espouses. You should at least familiarize yourself with him. LINK
