Grant County Triathlon Cancelled

Grant County Triathlon Cancelled

My original intent centered on writing a post detailing my training progress sixty days out from the Grant County Triathlon, but instead it will detail my disappointment in its cancellation. I am not surprised that they made the decision to cancel, I believe they set a deadline and if they didn’t have a definitive yes they’d forgo the race. In Kentucky, as of this post, gyms and pools remain closed. It’s hard to fathom how a race could go off in those circumstances.

My first reaction to the news is that I’m losing the impetus for my fitness journey. I know that I should continue progressing but I’m not sure at what pace. My original training plan included a shift from cardio development to strength and speed training. Now I think I’ll just focus on strength and continued slow paced weight loss. My six week Strava based running plan and four week indoor cycling routine from Zwift will have to wait.

If there is one thing I’m looking forward to it’s getting back into the gym. I am following Ohio’s guidelines and am curious what my LA Fitness location will look like going forward. Will they still host a lunchtime spinning class? Will they remove equipment from their cardio or weight room? I am also curious about the club we attend in Kentucky. My morning routine over the last two years between my wife’s ended school year and its restart includes lap swimming before work. When can I do that again? I really enjoyed it.

Finally, my post race update showing a slimmer, healthier side by side comparison between my 2019 and 2020 race self will have to wait. If there is a 2021 race the distinction will be more pronounced assuming I continue to make these gains. Maybe that will be what I can look forward to in the future.
