Eulogy Of My Mother

Eulogy Of My Mother

My sister wrote and delivered the most beautiful eulogy I’ve ever heard or read at my mom’s funeral mass. I am saving it here so I always have it. From her:

Where do you even start with a person who loved as fiercely as mom did and lived with such vigor for her fellow human. Mom was Robin Rust. Mom was my best friend, my confidant, my partner in crime, her smile was contagious, and she was a sincere listener. Mom was a lot of things, she always knew what to say, she always had your back and she wouldn’t put up with spotty wait service. Mom was the perfect friend.
Mom always had a Kohls coupon, she spoke her mind, she was the BEST cook, she was a foodie, she loved trying new restaurants and meeting new people. Mom loved LaRosa’s spaghetti and meatballs. She loved the beetles, she loved hugging old friends, she was always the first to forgive, she always put herself second. Mom loved musicals and passed that love on to all her kids. She gave her shirt off her back, she loved sitting by the pool, she loved swimming with her grand kids, she loved watching Broghan play football.
Mom adored her grandchildren.
Mom had an army of women who supported her. Her passion was caring for people, so nursing was her calling.
Mom mended hearts for a living.
She graduated from nursing school in 76’ and in her 50’s completed her BSN. She loved her co-workers fiercely and was very involved with their lives.
Mom worked…hard….
Mom and us spent Thanksgiving evening one year in the cath lab locker room. She never hesitated throwing her kids in the back of her Taurus 92’ wagon in the middle of a snowstorm to go and save a strangers life.
She worked three jobs to put her kids through private school and She developed a currency for trade; back scratches and peeling off her socks after a 12-hour shift….. –
Mom was worth it.
Mom had friends. Best friends. Sisters. She stayed up late, held their hand and listened to their problems and they came over when she strangled the Christmas tree.
Moms sisters were always, there for her and they relied on each other. She welcomed her friends a place to live when they needed it and they did.
Mom was a member of a true sisterhood.
Mom enjoyed watching movies with her grand kids and making snacks for them, she despised shoes and lost them at every social gathering. She gave wet kisses and long hugs. She loved cozy socks.
She was her father’s treasure, and she loved, loved, loved that she was able to take care of him.
Mom tranquilized problems, that was her superpower.
Mom had 4,923 cousins. She loved singing Christmas carols with them and holding them close while they danced on hot summer concrete.
Mom was also a big sister. She had two little brothers; Mom dropped everything when they needed her. She loved them unapologeticaly.
Mom adored us kids. She would make us home cooked meals after her long shifts. She would be anywhere you needed or wanted her to be. She loved her dog Graham.
Mom lost dad from cancer in 91’, he left her 4 kids to raise up on her own. She moved us to Independence to be closer to her in-laws, so we could have them in our lives.
Mom always made it work.
She spent her off time busing kids to sports, school and dr appointments. She worked tirelessly. She was the strongest woman I know.
Josh was her advisor, Ryan was her heart, I was her best friend and Stephanie was her baby. Mom was our world and we were happy to be living in it.
Mom never hesitated to give. She was a true pietist and she did exactly what God told her to do, love the lord and love each other. She lived a saintly life. Mom was kind.
Mom gave when she had none to give. Mom always carried cash on her and would grab an extra sandwich just in case she ran into someone who needed it. She probably gave or made a sandwich for everyone in this room at some point. Mom would want us to give. Give each other love, give someone hope, give someone a sandwich.
Help the poor when you can and if all of us lived a little more like Mom, we would probably smile as much as she always did too
Mom was loved.
Mom would say, thank you for loving her.
