My New 2021 Ford Bronco
I am the proud owner of a 2021 Ford Bronco. I did not plan to purchase a new car, that decision thrust itself upon me after my 2013 Ford Escape began leaking coolant into the oil. Yes, the car I lovingly owned over the last nine years is no more. Unfortunately it overheated a few too many times, and the required repairs topped my budget for it. I am very grateful for my new vehicle, but the buying experience during this time left me exhausted.
When I first suspected my vehicle’s upcoming engine failure, I decided to put it in at the dealership for one last ditch effort to get it repaired. My regular mechanic told me not to bother with it, that it needed several thousand dollars in repairs, if not a new engine. In the meantime I rented a Toyota 4-Runner SR5 so I could get the boys into school every morning while I waited for the news. I honestly did not want to purchase anything new given how bad the market is for buyers and that I work from home full time.
After driving the rental for a few days, I ended up really liking the 4-Runner and decided to put it into the mix if I needed to purchase a new vehicle. I found one online and left a message for the dealer. The next morning someone called me and told me that vehicle sold, but another one due in several weeks could be had given the original deal fell through. They wanted me to come in that day and purchase it, sight unseen, a vehicle custom chosen that didn’t any of the choices I would prefer, and if I did not I could miss out on having anything. I’m not a big fan of pressure sales, I always walk on them, so I hoped for some good news from the Ford Dealership that was due to offer me their opinion on my existing vehicle later that day.
I called a salesperson at the Ford dealer I bought two cars from before and told him the issue. He said he’d talk to the garage to get the ball rolling on a diagnosis for me, given that they were three days into having my car and I was not sure I’d get an answer before the weekend. He called me back and said it needed a new engine, so I told him I wanted to look at some cars.
After test driving a few Escapes, I spotted this Bronco in the corner of the lot still wrapped up in plastic. I asked my sales guy, and he told me a deal fell through on it. Evidently it was going up on the site that day and it needed to be prepped. He hesitated talking anymore about it, and I basically told him I would leave if he wouldn’t show me the car. I believe they planned on marking it up again, so he hesitated, but relented and got the keys. We looked inside, and without even test driving it, I signed the purchase contract on it.
Interestingly enough, several people emailed, called, and even walked in wanting to look at the Bronco. I heard several sales people tell their contact to hold on in case the deal fell through. I laughed at that thought, twenty years ago there might be a chance of that happening, but I was confident I’d walk out with the vehicle that day. And I did.
I love this car. It’s very high tech with lots of bells and whistles. I am glad I could secure it, otherwise I’d probably be driving another Escape instead of renting a vehicle for several months until a new car would come in. My advice to anyone right now is to just wait if you can and let some of these supply chain issues waylay themselves.
