Cub Scout Kick Off And Friday Night Football Starts

Cub Scout Kick Off And Friday Night Football Starts

We had our first official meeting for the 2022-2023 season. The Independence Fire Department came and gave a great demonstration. That’s the first I’ve seen of what is actually on a fire truck. They demonstrated all of their tools, the jaws of life, their pumps and fans, and the equipment they use while in buildings including masks and microphones. We also had Kona Ice and a huge squirt gun battle. The kids loved it even though it was a little chilly outside. After that we met a few new families who are joining our pack for next season and I hope we have lots of success coming up this year. I am stoked to take a leadership position in this pack. I am just going all in on it. I hope that the boys enjoy the next few years. I want it to be special for them and I hope they continue scouting in the future. Until you sit down and talk to an older scout you do not realize how good scouting is for them.

At this year’s Cub Scout camp I met a few Eagle scouts and advanced scouts. At first glance I saw a lot of myself as a youth in them but they were nothing like me. They were really confident, passionate about their interests, they could deal with parents and teach children, they managed their stations and took ownership over their work. They knew things I didn’t figure out until I was in my early thirties. Couple that with working six days a week and 12 hour days and you can appreciate the head starts they have in their lives.

Finally, my nephew’s last season of football started. We missed the last few years because of COVID restrictions but now we can watch him. It is crazy how big of a deal these games are, lots of people there watching. It was even televised. Looking forward to more games this season as he bids farewell to his youth football days and hopefully starts college next fall playing D2 ball somewhere. I am really proud of the person he’s grown to be. He is confident and smart. Definitely had a different high school experience than I had for sure! I am also really glad he did this at the school he did as it is the premier Catholic sports school in Northern Kentucky. He will have lots of friends and contacts from here that will serve him well in years to come.

It’s just interesting to work with youth. It is not something I ever saw me doing but it is really rewarding.
