The Wonderful Wizarding World of Harry Potter

The Wonderful Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Harry Potter is a favorite of my son Ted and my wife. They love the magical world created by J.K. Rowling so much that we decided to take a trip to Universal Studios for the day while visiting Indian Rocks Beach, Florida. Luckily Orlando is only 70 miles from our condo, so it wasn’t a terrible drive to get there. I should add we had a false start the day before and turned around because of the rain expected in Central Florida, but that’s neither here nor there. Eventually we made it to the park thank goodness.

I have never been to either of the Universal Studio parks in Orlando before. To be honest, I like it more than Disney World. The theming is top notch, the lines aren’t terrible, and there are plenty of places to eat. I wouldn’t say the customer service was better, Disney owns that, but the park had so much to offer that I would say it might be the better one. Granted, we were there on the off season so I should qualify that up front.

Although we toured the rest of the park (we bought a multi park pass), we spent the vast majority of our time in Harry Potter World. Ted left with a wand (he chose Hermione) and he still talks about the experience. He honestly thought it was real. My wife also knocked a few things off her bucket list, including trying butter beer.

I’d love to come back and spend more time at the rest of Universal Studios. I did get a chance to ride the Simpsons ride, which was on my bucket list. Transformers also might be the best ride I’ve ever been on too. Ted also loved Minions. We just tried to cram too much into the same day. We didn’t get to see the Woody Woodpecker playhouse or ET, among quite a few other rides. However, we didn’t go to Florida to theme park it, we went for the beach. It’s just that I can’t visit Florida and not go to Orlando for at least one day!
