Cincinnati Museum Center, Holiday Trains, Dining Out
Cincinnati Museum Center and Holiday Trains
We made it here to see the Holiday Christmas trains and exhibit. First off I noticed the toys in the museum changed. Many of these are from when I was a child. I saw a Playstation (important to note we did not call it Platystation One then), and of course my beloved GI Joes. Funny to see my childhood as now a relic being preserved in the museum. I did get to tell my kids about it and they thought it was funny. It was pretty crowded, I think most people are looking to get out of the house on a rainy day. There’s also no games this weekend so it is a great time to get out and enjoy it.
I still remember these Holiday Trains when they were downtown at the Cinergy (now Duke). My mom would take us downtown one weekend during the season – on a bus! We would go see the trains and view some other Christmas exhibits and finally see Santa Claus at a shopping center downtown. These are all gone now. I remember going to Frisch’s for lunch and saw a fistfight in there. We ate and went to a movie, and saw Predator 2. People shouted and talked during the entire movie. This was the last year we went down. I think safety became an issue and downtown was transitioning to the “dark days” that would eventually lead up to the Cincinnati Riots in 2001. My mom always spoke so fondly of their trips downtown when she was a little girl, I think that loss was a big deal for many people her age. I’m not entirely sure what happened but I think most of it related to hauling everyone out to the suburbs and the shopping centers out there.
Dining Out – The Eagle
We are continuing our dining out tradition of one new place a month. This month we went to The Eagle and thoroughly enjoyed our meal there. Everyone liked their food, even the boys. I ordered hush puppies, fried chicken, and collards. Ted ordered a chicken sandwich and Mac and cheese. Ben ordered the grilled cheese and fries. Leslie ordered the fried chicken and fries. The chicken was delicious. It was salt brined and fried perfectly. You had some hot honey to pour over it which made it an interesting taste combination. We also ordered lemonades which were very good and of course biscuits. I would 10/10 go here again.
