Snow, Perfect North Slopes, Scout Meeting

Snow Days

I don’t get many snow days working from home, which is one of the benefits of not leaving the house. I do enjoy not having to be on the roads when it’s like this and chance an accident. Everyone else was home for an extra week though because of all the snow we received, which means its been three weeks since anyone’s been back to school. I believe the boys are starting to turn feral at this point, and could utilize some classroom time. I don’t think they’re getting much use out of it though, they spend most of their time on iPads or playing games. I guess if I were that age and had access to them I would also.

We did get out Friday to see Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which my youngest son was stoked to see. He is a big fan of the series and Sonic in general so we had a little surprise visit just to get out of the house for a bit.

Perfect North Slopes

We had our Scout day at the slopes. Roughly 70 people showed up for the event. I ended up hanging out at the shelter and helping Scouts with hot chocolate and snacks. I unfortunately had a minor back sprain so riding down the slopes in a tube didn’t sound totally appealing to me. The resort itself was actually hopping given that we had some very rare snowfall. People were lined up pretty deeply for the slopes whereas the tubing was a little slow given that they are faster when it is more icy. Afterwards we visited a local car themed restaurant where we ate lunch. It was pretty good, it was fun explaining the 1950s, doo-wop, and Elvis Presley. I ordered a Frisco melt although I really wish I would’ve ordered the country fried steak with eggs.

Scout Meeting

Our Scout Meeting was a success. These are starting to wind down for my group. As AOLs they’ll be transitioning over to the Troop soon. There’s a little bit of sorrow as I write this, I’ve had these kids since kindergarten. It has been really rewarding seeing them grow. I deeply appreciate being able to be in their lives and I hope they remember me when they are my age with fond memories. Perhaps even inspire them to spend time working with youth on their own and maintain the Scouting tradition. Our next meeting will actually be with the Troop where they’ll have a night learning what it’s like to be a Boy Scout. That should be fun.
