Back To School, Black Belt Steak Dinner
Back To School
We enter a new school year for everyone. Honestly, it is the saddest day of the year for me. I love when everyone is home during the summer, and more than that I like free mornings to workout or even sleep in during that period. With everyone going back I find myself restarting my morning commute duty. It is not that bad though, their school is only a few minutes down the street, and it gives me the motivation to wake up on time, shower, and prepare for the day. They’re also getting older, and for the most part dress themselves and prepare to leave. I only need to make sure they are doing those things and finishing their breakfast. I also style their hair for them using gel. Look good, play good.
Because I’ve always kept the morning drop off even after working from home full time I’ve never really been able to enjoy the full “work from home experience”, i.e., waking up and just starting work in your pajamas. I’ve always kept, for the most part, the morning routine by waking up between 5:00 and 5:30 AM and starting work at 8:30 AM. My mornings usually consist of reading news and personal emails and checking social media. I try to time box those items in before work because I don’t want my mental energy or time being diverted once the clock starts. My evenings are so busy sometimes with children’s activities that I need to be as productive as possible during the day and I find keeping the personal cellphone out of my hands is key to it.
Black Belt Steak Dinner
My oldest son earned his black belt in Taekwondo and we celebrated with a steak dinner at Texas Roadhouse. This was the first time we’ve been here in quite some time, but he was dead set on a piece of prime rib as his reward. It is really hard to find prime rib on a menu it seems and TR is one of the few I could find with it. I don’t want to digress too much, but it drives me nuts this restaurant, which found its start in Louisville, KY is named after Texas. It should be Kentucky Roadhouse. I should also note that Kentucky is one of the largest beef producers east of the Mississippi River so it does fit. It also kills me how many country musicians sing about Tennessee, despite being from Kentucky also (Chris Stapleton my dude, come on, Kentucky Bourbon > Tennessee Whiskey 100/100).
