Deck Slats, Friend Party (First Love)

Deck Slats, Friend Party (First Love)

Deck Slats

I spent the majority of the weekend working on home projects, including fastening some slats on to the pergola roof to provide some much needed shade for the dining table. I’ve spent the better part of a year working through this deck upgrade. It all started when I noticed the existing pergola a few years ago was lurching on one side, exposing some wood rot in the supporting timber. I tore that down then built a new structure using four by fours and metal coupling. I coopted the original vinyl slats for that build into this one so I was able to save some money. Engineering this thing was a pain in the butt honestly. I realize you learn by doing things, especially building, but wow this one took some thinking to get done.

Party at Friend’s House

Normally I wouldn’t comment on attending a party, other than to note about what happened there that’s got me kind of shook. Evidently my oldest son’s crush lived there (her mom is friends with my wife), and I saw the two of them running around holding hands. I don’t know if I am ready for this yet! It is just puppy love between two children but it is a harbinger of what is to come. We’ve already talked to each other about girls in his school he likes, but this milestone felt like a way off yet and now it is more concrete. Evidently they’ve crushed on each other since meeting at Taekwondo and were honest with each other about their feelings. I’ve also learned later this week that things aren’t going to work out between them as it seems she’s told him she’s not interested in a boyfriend. Now we have hurt feelings from him, but it is good to experience this now so he can learn from it. We have an upcoming Scout trip with each other and some fun stuff that will get his mind off of it.
