Derby Cars

I took a new approach to building Derby Cars for Cub Scouts this year. Instead of pitching to have it done the evening before the race, I decided to spend an entire day doing it. Who would’ve thought that setting aside more time to do this would make it easier? I let both boys help trace the cutout then use the Dremel to score it. They used a saw to cut it in half but quit so I finished that off with the Sawzall. They then used the Dremel sander to finish it then spray painted it. I glued the weight on and set the wheels. Both cars came in exactly at 5.0 ounces. One car came in first place and the other in third so they did pretty well.

Pinewood Derby

The derby went off without a hitch. My back was a little sore still but I was able to get the track there. Eventually some help came and I showed them how to set up the track and they did the rest of the work. I ended up running the race like I did last year and it went off without a problem. The race gate I bought was functional and worked perfectly with the new software I bought for it too. Evidently I am now an expert in Pinewood Derby racing setups!

Maharaja Indian Food

We got takeout from our favorite restaurant, Maharaja. This place is absolutely incredible. Evidently the dining room was packed when Leslie went and picked up our dinner. I am glad to hear it for sure, I was hoping they would succeed. They are nice people and take good care of us whenever we visit. What is notable here though is the boys actually like the food here too. Both boys completely demolished their chicken Tikka masala. Yes! I tried a new dish I’ve never had before and it was great. I chose a vegetarian dish which I enjoyed and I cannot remember the name of it as I type this out. The bread/nan was delicious too. I’ve eaten a ton of Indian food from many different restaurants in our region and this place is the best. The flavors are always rich and the proteins are tender.

Focuses

Most of my focus this week is on my fitness regiment. I’ve worked out a pretty good routine where I work out in the mornings before breakfast. Right now I’ve expanded my weight lifting regiment to two 90 minute sessions and swimming 4000 meters. This is an improvement obviously because it’s more time but because I actually go to the gym less (just for more time) I actually feel a little less burnout doing it. Of course, I run the risk of waking up late and not being able to get there in time (I need to be out of the house by 5:30 AM), so this means my evenings need to be perfect. The swimming though is giving me the real results and I’m considering swapping in another session. The doctor recommended 150 minutes a week of cardio so this is going to go a long way.
